When it was time to consider adding a dog to our crew, many wanted to go with another German Shepherd. After years of faithful service from our previous shepherds, we were tempted. Was there really a dog that didn't shed? No dander to cause allergies? An easy to train, well- tempered, loyal dog? Small yet hardy? Yes, there is! We found all that and more in the Coton De Tulear.
The Coton De Tulear is considered the royal dog of Madagascar. Cotons were the lapdogs of royalty. Unlike many small dogs, the Coton De Tulear has never been miniaturized which has enabled them to maintain their calm nature.
The Coton has a long life. They have a lifespan between 15 and 18 years.
The Coton thrives on people. They are not a demanding dog, but will not be happy without your love and attention. They do not like being left alone for long periods of time. Rather, they enjoy making their owners smile regularly!
